During a month long residency at P3Studio at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in cooperation with Art Production Fund I created an installation which explored the complexity of memory and how it deteriorates over time. Every time your brain recall's a memory, its remembering the last time it recalled it. Continually corrupting and altering the original experience.
I combined overlooked objects including slide projectors, found and family negatives, mylar, and fans to create a lucid mindscape. Over the course of the residency, I slowly altered the projections each day so the experience would never be the same twice.
The studio was divided into two sections: the installation and a workspace to spark a conversation with guests. Participants were encouraged to create a small collage based on a personal memory, using found images and personal images they could print onsite. I would then take a scan and create two pins, one they kept and one which was added to a larger piece focused on combining memories.
As part of the ongoing exploration of memory and how the mind worked, I created a series of images using the slides from my installation. Treating them as studies, I used various means of manipulation including burning and distorting the projections using walls and other three dimensional surfaces.
